The amount of "shake" can be adjusted with tuning.
I had a fairly aggressive cam in my 05 GTO with considerable cam shake. At my request, my tuner made my GTO idle extremely close to stock. People couldn't even tell my car was cammed (even the dealership couldn't tell it was cammed when I brought it in for service).
