I had the exact same problem back about a year ago and also thought it was the fuel pump, it wasn't. the problme that you are having is with your mas airflow senser. It ia a chip that measures the air flow from your intake down into your engine to make sure it is being ventilated properly. When the chip goes bad it doesn't signal properly so the computer shuts the car off to prevent a blown engine. The chip is housed in a piece of plastic pipe right at the back of where your air filter covers go down from two to one right there in the very front of the engine compartment.

There are two fixes. 1) you can just unplug teh wire form it and leave it hanging. as long as the computer doesn't receive a bad signal you are good. No signal means a good signal for the computer. 2) spend about $35 on a new one. I got a new one from an Auto Parts store. Walk in and tell them you need a "mas airflow senser" for your camaro and if they know anything abou their job they can get it for you really fast.
