Here is why:
Prefix Coatings of Auburn Hills, Michigan, is the exclusive painter for SRT's flagship machine, and their entire operation is done by hand. Prefix's 129,000-sq.ft. paint facility opened in August 2012, and will provide the local economy with 125 new jobs once the Conner Avenue assembly plant is fully operational and building cars. The company is no stranger to doing work with the Viper team: Prefix was the supplier for the production striping programs for the Dodge Viper and the Dodge SRT Commemorative Edition Vehicles.
One of Chrysler's specifications was to create a 9-plus orange peel final finish that provides a nearly mirror-smooth surface. The entire operation is done by hand--from the initial sanding prep work to manual striping, painting, wet-sanding and final polish. Now that Prefix has control of all aspects of the Viper's paint, they can put a clearcoat on over their striping, thus eliminating the wax buildup at the edge of the stripe, which was, we're told, a common complaint among Viper owners.
