Usually when talking about the transmission itself, you focus on intended max weight of the vehicle and the maximum torque. HP really doesn't matter because it is a function of torque and rotation speed. The 6L50 is rated for a 5000 lb. vehicle and around 400 ft lbs of torque if I remember right. I've been running way beyond 400 TQ on mine for a long time (lots of trips down the 1/4 strip) and not one problem, yet (cross fingers). I wouldn't worry about the tranny, the torque converter and differential will go out way before it unless you got a dud.
