Yes 500hp on an l99 is acheivable without a sc, but the drivabilty wont be the same. You would have to do the ls3 conversion, and have a pretty high lift cam. With the parts and labor you would be close to the price of some vendors for the install of a sc, and not have the "stock like" drive. I have done the research myself for both, and decided the sc route would be the better one IMO.
