Remember, these cars are computer controlled and they will try to optimize the timing based on the fuel. Therefore, when you put 87 octane in a V-8 car with a 10.7 CR, it will pull the timing back to avoid detonation based on the knock sensor and some other parameters. This will lower MPG, which may negate any gains you THOUGHT you had running the 87. Just some things to contemplate.
