I've always felt a manual was easier on the brakes overall, as you have the ability more readily to downshift or slow down with the clutch engaged using the engine's compression to ease the load necessary for braking...Whereas an automatic, down-shifting is not as effective, or harder on the trans than what it's worth...dunno...Probably "trade-offs" all around...
