I've been running synthetic in my dime for the whole time. No ill effects.
There is nothing but metal in the unit I can't see a reason to NOT use synthetic.
I do know back in the 4th Gen days there was a complaint of a "rusty nail sound" what ever that is. The solution was to run friction modifier for a clutch differential.
