The LS7 is much larger and more radically tuned, meaning it will get a lower hwy mpg than the LSA. GM would rather say "556 hp and 21 mpg hwy!" Than "505 hp and 19 mpg hwy!" It just makes sense to use the LSA. No exotic materials, no exotic dry-sump oiling system, and supercharged just like the GT500, which would obviously be its main competitor. The LS7 is on its way out, anyway. I'd be willing to bet money that if they make a Z/28, and it doesn't use a Gen V motor, it will be the LSA.

The LS7 will get better gas mileage than the LSA (it is rated at 26MPG im the Z06). However, if they make the Z28 as originally planned, it will have the LSA.The plan was/is to make the Z28 a GT500 fighter(irregardless of it's history).
