Agreed, wire brush to remove the rust... once its clean wipe down with alcohol or a surface prep for paint. Mask off the surrounding area and spray with high temp paint. All GM cars and trucks have that issue... best solution is to paint it, they become much easier to keep clean with a coating on them.
