tbird ... from your initial post:
Quote:
Invoice-$41,785
MSRP-$44,245
True Market Value-$42,219

And recently you said:
Quote:
I worry I may be getting greedy but thinking when I go back tomorrow I may ask if they will drop the $391 I am over invoice and let me buy at straight invoice-if they so no it's no big deal
So then I calculated their real cost as follows:

41,785.00 - invoice
- 1,327.35 - holdback (MSRP * 3%)
-------------
40,457.64

Keep in mind, I'm not considering your military benefit here. Nor am I considering the $1000 or $500 cash back incentive since those come from GM, not the dealer. So, if you want to be more particular about YOUR true cost, try something like this but add your military benefit in here where appropriate ...

41,785.00 - invoice
- 1,327.35 - holdback (MSRP * 3%)
-------------
40,457.64
+ 600.00 - profit (just using this as a place holder)
- 500.00 - Manufacturer rebate
------------
40,557.65

See, if you're saying they are selling to you at invoice + $391, understand how much money the dealer is making ... (forget your rebate for a minute) ... this is from the DEALER perspective:

$ (41,785.00) - those parenthesis mean they are PAYING that money to GM
+ 42,176.00 - what you're saying they quoted you (invoice + 391)
+ 1,327.35 - holdback (MSRP * 3%)
----------------
$ 1,718.35 - dealer profit

I checked pricing on truecar.com with your options and got the following:

43,926 INVOICE
44,005 Average Price Paid
45,495 MSRP

When I look at MY car, here's the numbers:

40,623 INVOICE
40,753 Average Price Paid
41,825 MSRP

The Estimated True Car Price is:
39,702

If I paid that, the dealer profit would have been 413 which is close the $100 per $10K I suggested in the thread above:
Real Cost = (Invoice - Holdback) or 40,623 - (41,825 * .03) = 39,369.

Expressed differently:
+39,702
-39,369
-----------
=413

But I offered MORE profit than that given my zip code and maybe I started at $400 profit and should have started lower. Then dealer actually asked for $1200 profit but then we settled in the middle (1200+400)/2 = 800.

Make sense?

Go get em!
