It's common to start furthest away from the master cylinder and work closer. I always do it based on the location of the abs distribution block though which is often on the opposite side of the car. I don't know if there is conventional wizdom top to bottom, but I do top first since it seems in, my feeble mind, would get the bubbles on the top out first. Might be wrong about that though.
