I will chime in, we have the HURST in two of our vehicles... my 2007 C6 has it and it uses the factory knob and boot. To the naked eye it is the same but in your hands it is MUCH better than stock. Second isin my dad's 2007 superchaged Mustang GT. Now it is a full new shifter with the chrome shaft and white ball shift knob. I think like the GT500 might have only the GT is a 5 speed, GT500 is 6. It is very fitting in the car and was MUCH MUCH better than stock. The stock shifter was spongy and well... SUCKED.

If I get the M6, I will likely get the hurst, I am sure it will be better...

OH and install it yourself... its cake, if you can work a screw driver and wrench.
