This was my ride when doing fieldwork in Antarctica. We had just had a week-long snow storm so the snow on the glacier was soft. So, they attached 8 JATO bottles to the plane (that's what they're working on in that photo). They made us all sit in the tail of the plane to get some weight off the nose ski for take off. When they fired the JATO it was some fun ride! We did break the hydraulics in the nose ski and they had to fly the plane to New Zealand the next day for repairs.
