Not true only the 4th gen were the roles reversed. Z28 started out only for a certain sanctioned race(trans am, i believe). When you checked off option RPO Z27 you got a SS. The next RPO was Z28 and the press ran away with it. 1967 Z28's didn't even have any badges on them, just stripes. Plus the SS wasn't produced for 26 years and the top of the line Camaro was Z28.
