I can't describe it other than an industrial smell...lubricants, cleaning stuff...
As for the clothing, it is usually the cheapest laundry stuff they can find, with little to no freshener scent, and often the clothes are soaked through with hydraulic fluids, SBM, synthetic based muds, and other industrial based lubricants... When you're on the rig, you dont really notice it.. it's everywhere.... when off the rig, you get home and open the offshore bag and it amazes you how different it is...
