Not at all, just less torque management. Automatics are constantly adjusting the torque request from the engine (primarily at shifts) where as a manual trans has none of this during a shift (I like being in control of the shift) the traction control is pretty much all that manages the torque request (or decrease) based on wheel slip. I could be wrong but that's my understanding of the system.
And yes I like to have the "nannies off" from time to time but for everyday driving I keep it safe.
