Maybe the car show should be in the early evening (before dark) at the hotel parking lot. That way folks who would like to participate in racing events would not have to choose. You would just have to arrange for any folks not staying at the host hotel to be able to bring their cars in. And don't make the largest points be for spotless cleanliness, just reasonably clean, again so those who want to race don't have to sweat it so much. It is about fun most of all, after all.
