It could be an intermittently bad bulb. (Although 2 may be a stretch... I've had bulbs that are bad but will still light when they just happen to be making contact with broken filament) Or a bad contact at the base of the bulb itself... have you checked the connections to the high beam bulbs and bulbs?
Unless these cars have a bulb out warning... in which case, just ignore me.
But having no lights at all when your are in a situation where you need to use high beams sounds disconcerting. I'd check it out or get it checked out soon.
