I think it's great. The severity of injuries sustained in an accident without a seatbelt being worn is higher than when a seatbelt is worn. I don't find buckling up to be offensive/intrusive/annoying, or part of some covert political agenda.

What I do find offensive/intrusive/annoying is that insurance rates, healthcare costs, and also a portion of my tax dollars are going to support those who injured themselves as a result of negligence and are taking insurance settlements, getting free healthcare, and having their survivors take government assistance because they are no longer alive or are able to support their families. I fully support people who want to do stupid things, so long as I don't end up paying for it.
