A6 Sport Mode

I understand that A6 Sport mode has higher shift points than D and may hold high revs longer. I've had 2 instance so far accelerating on the freeway in Sport mode (no tap shifting) when the RPM stays at around 4.2K when I back off on the accelerator. The thing is that it holds the high revs for several seconds, around 4 to 7 seconds while I work the peddle to get it to shift up. Anyone else experience this? It seems like the tranny should of shifted sooner. This is the first time I've experienced Sport mode and am not sure if this is normal.
