It won't happen. Electric is just a stop gap until hydrogen (as used by vehicles) becomes more readily available and affordable. The power grid infrastructure is already being stressed pretty hard. Could you imagine tapping a few million cars into that? Ethanol is a joke too. Growing corn for fuel when there are people starving....epic fail. Big V8 muscles cars are the true green cars because until we suck up and burn off all the fossil fuel there will be no huge demand for alternate fuel sources.
