One of my Super Bowl party guests and I were watching the game, and the lights go out. He instantly had a theory.
Baltimore was slaughtering the 49ers, and the ratings had to be plummeting. Someone at the network pulled the plug. Here's how he said the conspiracy would play out:
- The first half would play out fairly.
- Because one team was going to dominate the other team, someone had to put the ball in the other team's court. Something must go wrong.
- The lights are cut off so that Baltimore goes cold. San Francisco has been playing cold all game anyway, so this helps them get themselves together and plan.
- A few intentionally missed passes or dropped balls ought to keep the game even enough to keep people watching.
- Since Baltimore is clearly the superior team, they'll still win so no one cries foul.
This is my buddy's Super Bowl conspiracy theory. I do not take credit for this. Discuss.
