I'm not suggesting there aren't many highly qualified people who could totally build a great engine, however, considering all the testing and R&D that go into powertrains by GM (along with other companies,) I wouldn't feel nearly as good going with someone without all that engineering and technical support building a car to last 100K+ miles. I did not intend for it to come across otherwise, but I mean really, how many people are really out there that are truly qualified to build powerplants as good as GM? I think there are car companies out there that don't build to such standards. To each his own, this observation was simply only MVHO.
