Can a bad oil pressure sensor shut down the car?

So Bonnie went to get us lunch here at the office. While she was driving the oil pressure 'dropped' and had the flashing light and code that said the oil pressure was low and to shut the car off.

The car was running fine. The oil pressure reads low but doesn't seem low. No oil leaking other than the very light oil I get from the rear and that's always been there.

I have had a cel that reads oil pressure sensor. Haven't had the chance to remove the blower and replace the sensor.

The question is .........

Can the sensor being bad shut the car down thinking the oil pressure is that low when it really isn't?
