The new camaro had dramatic styling, and it was a HIT. Then they listen to all the average people give design input, they adjust their design accordingly, and create a coupe that looks like every other car on the market, and then wonder why no one buys it.
On the avalanche they had a crazy design that while a lot of people thought it was ugly, it sold well. They change the design to make it look like what everyone wanted and sales plumetted to 1/3rd what it was before, never recovering until they pulled it off the market.

Most car makers do this, they go radical and then slowly make it less viually unique, I think right now KIA is the only maker that keeps pushing the creativity envelope. Everyone else starts trying to play it safe.
