I've never removed the "header plate from around the hood latch". I assume that this is the metal piece that you are talking about. It isn't necessary to remove it. The bumper cover has (I think 6) plastic panel holders. So on the top there are 6 clips and two screws.

Just curious, do you guys use the same LEDs as JDP does? Guess I was wondering if yours were brighter or roughly the same.
