Additionally, ZL1 production at the Oshawa, Ontario plant has ceased for the time being.
**Update:
ZL1 production has not been suspended, but the quality assessment is still ongoing. However, this is not abnormal, as this usually happens with most GM vehicle launches. Additionally, all of Oshawa Assembly was shutdown last week. This shutdown was planned, and there is another week-long shutdown scheduled from March 26 through April 1. There was also another planned shutdown a few weeks ago. These stoppages were due to planned updates to the line.
However, sources inform us that Dealer Order Submission Process (DOSP) dates didn’t account for these planned shutdowns. And as a result, the DOSP dates need to be re-aligned, and orders placed last week are going to be delivered based on the rescheduling.
The letter didn’t get into detail about what exactly is going on, but it did mention that the suspension/assessment could last “a few more weeks.” Since this morning, we have learned that it may be a software-related issue. Which in fact has resulted in a particular Camaro ZL1 delivery in Texas to be shipped back to the plant. There’s probably more where that came from.
So, what we have here are two things happening at once. Quality control, and a possible DOSP hiccup.
So, if you’re one of the lucky ones ready and willing to obtain the $54,495 track monster, you may have to wait until the months get a little warmer — which isn’t exactly a bad thing. In the meantime, we will be investigating the reason for the sudden hold. You can read the letter just below.

Update on 2012 Camaro ZL1 Shipments and DOSP
The purpose of this note is to provide you with an update on 2012 Camaro ZL1 production and vehicle shipment plans.
All Camaro ZL1 models produced to date are currently being held by General Motors for a quality assessment. At this moment, the duration of the hold is undetermined, and may last a few more weeks. As soon as the hold is cleared, a note will be sent to all dealers to advise that 2012 Camaro ZL1 shipments are underway.
Because of the hold, the upcoming Dealer Order Submission Process (DOSP) cycle that was to be dedicated to ZL1 is being postponed. This DOSP cycle was scheduled to start this Thursday, March 1, 2012, and continues through Tuesday, March 6, 2012. A new date for this DOSP cycle will be provided in the near future.
We regret to have to undertake these actions, especially given the high anticipation for the new Camaro ZL1. We ask for your patience and will continue to keep you posted on any developments regarding production and vehicle shipments from Oshawa.
Sincerely,
Russell M. Clark
