It is for scenario's where you have to pull the car, whether you get stuck or just have to pull the car up onto the trailer. If you find yourself in a scenario where you have to pull the car you will quickly find there is no good place to hook onto and you will be glad you have our tow hook!
Also if you are a road racer, most tracks require you to have one.

Here is a pic to give you an idea of how it bolts up. With a tubular crash bar, It may take some custom modification.
