The main issue I see you needing to get around is if you just press out the piece in the bearing then you will create a fitment issue with the top. It requires standoff so you would need to space it somehow without affecting bearing function.

Granted I have no idea what your shock looks like and I don't know what the tapered portion looks like that you're speaking of.

The top nut has a collar of the same dimensions as the brass piece above to fit into the upper mount. Thats the other issue.
