Traditionally you should not worry about exerting more for with a short throw, in fact normally they are easier when designed properly. They follow shifting gates better, have less slop and play, which equals less force.

The hurst shift with the factory installed shift knob still sits in the same plane as the stock unit. They are a great unit for quality and installation.

In my opinion there isn't a gotchia if you buy the right shifter. Hurst is certainly a great unit.
