Important questions: "Is it quiet?" "Does the Hurst shifter have hard neoprene bushings?"
I recently upgraded to a short throw shifter in my non-Camaro. I LOVE IT! It's silky-smooth, precise and, most importantly - reduced the throw by over 50%.
BUT... the hard bushings create a direct path for vibration to enter the interior. It doesn't rattle; it just creates an "amplifier" for all the stuff you don't necessarily want to hear.
The first time I turned the key, the sound of the starter was so loud I wasn't sure I was in MY car. I can now hear the sound of the engine and where I used to faintly hear the exhaust tone from the rear of the car at 80 MPH, I now hear it loudly coming from "everywhere" at all speeds. I can hear the engine and every noise from the transmission (not a very pretty sound.) Thankfully a replacement is in transit - live and learn!
So... be careful with an aftermarket shifter. Sound may be the last thing on your mind, but it may be important to you.
