I'm guessing you're familiar with the 427 AC Cobra. It handles relatively well and it was a convertible.
Also, the GT500 is available as a convertible and it is the main competition for the ZL1. Chevrolet will likely lose sales to the GT500 if the ZL1 is not available as a convertible.
