Hard corbering and braking causes wet sump windage (oil splashing around ) that can rob power and if you suck some air in the pickup that is a momentary starvation of oil. A dry sump is constantly supplying the same amount of oil at all times and no pickup tube in a wetsump to suck air. The more oil, the better in longevity, keeping cool, and maintaining protection properties longer.


GM first started using the dry sump with the C6 Z06 corvette (427 ci) LS7.
