IMO, the Z28 is a big deal only because there has been a Z28 for so long, and there is a lot of heritage there.
Personally, I don't think there will ever be a Z28 trim level. Z28 will be badging for a special appearance and/or handling package. Someday in the more distant future they may make a Z28 trim with a low-displacement, high-output, DI engine, but I think CAFE is gonna force all the engines to head that direction so I think this is unlikely. SS always has been the big bruiser in the Chevy line up. Making the Z28 a more powerful car would just open up a different can of worms from us malcontents who think SS should keep its top-dog status.
