Yes, you can always peel them off - not that bad. I agree with the painting as the vinyl doesn't cut it. Also, as you see more cars, you can get other ideas of a custom job. Just peeled off some side stripes from my car and replaced the hood & hood spears with IOM painted spears! MUCH better!
