Its not a limited production car, and there will be way too many produced to be "rare".
Also you would have to wait approximately 30 years, and hope people actually care about gas powered cars then.
There's more to the current muscle car value movement than time and rarity. The people involved are nostalgic about the era of these cars. As time passes,so do these people. New generations are far more apt to collect Hondas and Acuras than Fords and Chevies.
Buy a ZL1 for the right reasons..to enjoy the performance of the car. When you are done with it, sell it. You will lose money because you will sell it for far less than new value, but it will be ok, because that is how it works. That is how it ALLWAYS works....
Maybe. Finding an unmolested 2012 in good condition might be hard in 10 or 15 years. How many people intend to mod and drive the hell out of the car? Quite a few. Add to that the shortened 2012 production run and you will be looking at a car that there aren't that many of in desirable condition. Now will this car be desirable in 15-20 years? That is a different question. There will be people who desire the ZL1 but won't be able to afford one for 15-20 years. Some of these people will want one in original condition. Who knows if we will still be able to buy that many V8 cars then? It is somewhat possible the ZL1 is one of the last cars in this platinum era of performance cars. That doesn't mean they will be worth $100,000, but they might hold value well.

That said, I'm not buying mine as an investment but the ZL1 has more chance of being worth something than a lot of cars for sale right now - especially if they don't make a 6th gen version.
