The L99 puts out less power due to the cam only, as far as I know. Just putting in an LS3 cam would give you the 426 hp from the LS3. They put a smaller cam due to the heavier valvetrain and to prevent wear and tear-and they also lowered the rev limiter on the L99. I'm sure plenty of guys will pull out those AFM lifters, put in a bigger cam and tune out the AFM. May not be exactly factory, but it can and will be done. So the answer to your question is you can use the same hot cam (or whatever you want), just have to swap out the lifters and get a tune-which you would need anyway with the cam swap.
