Many people have portable GPS and that's the way to go if you ask me , you can use them car to car especially rentals. Anyhow I believe once you tell Onstar where you want to go the directions turn by turn are downloaded into your car, a display will show them and audio prompts just like a nav system and will prompt you till you get to your destination. The great thing its basically hands off and hands free after you hit the onstar button. Close to 2G's it would take you almost 15 years to make the difference up. Allot of people love NAV system as the centerpiece/showpiece for the car if that's what turns you on there's always aftermarket.
