For those in Indy in 2008, I don't remember which engineer it was but they specifically addressed the crank window question. They flat said that crank windows would indeed weigh more than the power ones that's why they wouldn't be offered.

Then do like the old Chrysler S/S cars - have a belt attached to the window with a strap.
Unbuttoned the window will slide all the way down and open. Pull the belt and button it and it will be closed.
Pretty slick idea.
But this is not the 1960s - people expect things on all cars even a stripped down track car
