Note: I've pretty much owned 95% of the games on that list. Most of them are dogs. The ones I listed are honestly ones I'd consider playing again. Master of Orion would be an excellent game to start with. It doesn't run on Windows 7 though, but if you have XP you'll be good.

Did you ever play Wing Commander secret ops, the full version they gave away free? I member it was a good game, cept I dind't learn enough. Was upset that it took 15-20s to fly to the next battle, I just never hit the warp button DOH
