Our V6 camaro is equipped with the 6 spd auto trans. I believe the low first gear coupled with the cam phasing (VVT) is one reason it performs so well out of the hole. As well if you look at the highway gearing we are turning very low rpm in 6th gear. Looks to me like GM did a remarkable job catching the sweet spot for mpg at highway speeds. Ours has just 460 miles and when I get her (Scarlet) on the freeway, dial the cruise in at 70 mph, she is consistently above 30 mpg. Really glad we went with the LT package instead of the SS.
