I used to think the same thing until I looked at the specs from the late 60's and early 70's. The Z 2/8 had a higher performace level than the SS did.
Whatever car you want on top (SS or Z/28) LS7 would be a nice addition.
TTV6 well not sure where it would fall maybe a 2LT/SS
