I drive the car all year round - and up here, that means sub-zero temperatures at times. Even then, while slightly notchy, I have no problems shifting between all gears. As soon as the coolant is up to temperature, it seems as though the transmission smooths out to silk shortly thereafter.

I think that's the key, fluids up to temp including the trans. Easy if you have the extra gages, I just take it easy until the trans and oil temp are up before aggressive maneuvers.
