I've had a coilover with a metal color, within a year, the threads where I wanted to adjust the ride height, were completely stripped, and I was pretty much screwed. Threw those coilovers away, I couldn't even re-sell them for $300.
Granted I bought the car with them already on but 3 of the 4 allens were stripped. I've also never had any issues with metal collars.
