You can get a good axle back for not a whole lot more than a set of quality universal mufflers and the muffler shop labor. While cat backs do often run in the $1000 neighborhood even brand name axle backs can be had for closer to half that.
To answer your question you will want 2.5 inch inlet and outlet.
