Long response from my brembo rep:

The 60-0 stopping distance is more about the quality of your tires, your suspension setup and the quality of the road surface than about your brakes. Current braking & friction material technology allows any car to lock up the wheels, so by installing bigger & stickier tires with the correct suspension setup (little to no camber), the vehicle will stop better than it did prior to the modifications. You find most aftermarket ‘brake’ companies like to brag about their improved stopping distance after installing their brake kit (and some other items, like new tires & wheels and maybe a new suspension).

The Stage 1 Brembo GT Kit comes with 6-Piston Brembo Monobloc Calipers with high performance Ferodo FM1000 Pads and Goodridge Braided Stainless Steel Lines. The Monobloc Caliper is stiffer and lighter weight than the 2-piece oe Brembo Caliper (a single piece of metal is always stronger & lighter than 2 pieces mechanically attached together), so you’re decreasing your Camaro’s unsprung weight. The Caliper also has a special spring clip on top that presses against the pad backing plates, so when you take your foot off the brake pedal or the ABS kicks in, not only do the high pressure seals physically retract the pistons, but the spring pushes the pads off the rotor. Brembo GT Kit Calipers have Zero Off Pedal Drag. The GT Kit Pads are longer and of a much higher quality than the oe pads, so not only will you experience better stopping at all speeds, the pads will last longer with the same style driving as before you installed the Kit. (I mention same style driving because adding performance brakes is similar to adding a supercharger or a turbocharger to the vehicle. With horsepower upgrades you burn through tires & gas quicker and with brake upgrades you burn through pads & tires quicker.) The Ferodo FM1000 Pads are designed to operate when ice cold (throw you through the windshield on that 1st stop on a cold winter morning) to the high temperatures of mild track use and they are a very quiet pad, too. The Goodridge Braided Stainless Steel Lines work in conjunction the GT Kit Caliper providing greatly improved modulation & control, so you can feel exactly what you brakes & vehicle are doing, light deceleration or Stop Now! The Stage 1 Brembo GT Kit will provide significant braking performance improvements during spirited driving or track use.

The real ‘stopping’ test is from multiple high speed slowdowns. When a vehicle slows down from 100 to 70mph more thermal energy is generate in the brakes than when the vehicle slows down from 70 to 0mph. So if a ‘typical’ track is 2miles long with 10 corners, you will now put 10 times the heat energy into your rotors on the track compared to 2 miles of street driving. The oe Brembo rotors on the Camaro SS have a high thermal capacity and the Stage 1 GT Kit allows you take your car to the next level on or off the track without compromise.

Other items to note are that Brembo casts their own calipers (no one else gets a Brembo made Caliper, oem’s aside) in their own foundries. Brembo does extensive testing, from proprietary software computer simulations to brake dynos to their private test tracks, before bring a product to market. Brembo is the preferred supplier for over 31 automobile manufacturers for their performance vehicles, while Brembo Racing is exclusive on every Indy Racecar and on the top five Formula 1 Teams. The GT Kit Program gets the endurance & abuse properties from the Brembo OE Engineers and the performance & light weight advantages from the Brembo Racing Engineers, so you have over 400 engineers working to make your vehicle stop the quickest & best way possible.
