I like my portable unit. It can be easily and cheaply replaced when obsolete unlike the built in units. On Star doesn't show the roads around you or icons for gas, food, etc. I also like the ETA and miles to destination on the portable unit. However On Star is great for finding something for you in the direction you're heading. I've don't that for a Starbucks and a particular restaurant while traveling on I-95. The built in usually don't let you or a passenger use them while moving (safety enforced by lawyers) and the portables are a pain if you are alone.
