you have a point but I think the sound actually helps me save gas. I dont drive a camaro so I dont have any numbers to compare but I did swap out the mufflers on my lexus... need I say more
Anyhow, apart from the occasional 0-65 test on the on ramps I grandma it around town. I have found that the louder exhaust note makes me much more conscious of what RPM I am at and how hard (or easy) I am pushing the engine, making it easier to save some $$$ on gas
