'Domestic' refers to vehicles built in North America by the Detroit automakers. Foreign or import would be a car imported from outside of North America by a company based outside of North America. Additionally, a 'transplant' would be a domestically built car from a foreign automaker and lastly, a 'captive import' is just the opposite: a car built overseas by one of the domestic companies.
